The Desert People of Arrakis
The Fremen are the indigenous people of Arrakis, hardened by generations of survival in the most inhospitable environment in the known universe. Their culture is built on water discipline, communal loyalty, and a deep spiritual connection to the desert and its great sandworms. To outsiders, they appear primitive. Every aspect of Fremen life revolves around the conservation and reverence of water. Their stillsuits recover almost all body moisture, and the water of the dead is reclaimed for the tribe. To shed tears for someone is the highest honor a Fremen can bestow.
Customs and Traditions
Fremen society is organized into sietches, underground communities led by a naib. They practice a form of democracy tempered by martial tradition, where leadership can be challenged through combat. Their religious beliefs blend Zensunni teachings with desert mysticism, including prophecies of a messianic figure who will lead them to paradise.
